Australian Literary Management was established in 1980. In 1993 Lyn Tranter joined the agency and is now the director. The agency was established in 1999 by Mary Cunnane who has three decades of experience in the publishing industry internationally and in Australia. A former vice-president and senior editor of W.W. Norton & Company in New York, where she worked from 1976 to 1996, she was also the non-fiction publisher at Transworld in Sydney in 1998-1999 and has served as vice-president of the Sydney PEN Centre, as well as treasurer of ALAA of which she was a founding member.
